You were fired up to write and had a month’s worth of topics to get the ball rolling. Now, two months later you’ve “been there, said that,” and don’t know what to talk about next. What happens when you run out of things to say?

The important thing is not to give up. Just because you’re going through a dry spell doesn’t mean the well has gone dry. Dan Keller over at TycoonBlogger put together a nice article with 10 easy blog ideas that you can use to wet your writing whistle and get back to blogging.

Dan offers up several sources for finding inspiration, or at the very least interesting topics to keep you writing.

Blogging for your small business is a bit different than blogging for fun, or even for profit. However, many of his tips will still apply. My favorites for small business owners are: (...)
Read the rest of Speechless: Finding Topics for the Business Blogger (194 words)

If you’re convinced that the show will not go on unless you get full behind-the-scenes access to your very own iWonderful, but you’ve already spent your yearly tech budget on the full rainbow of iPod shuffles, there is only one thing left to do. You must convince your boss to buy you an iPad.

1. There’s an app for that – and it’s cheaper. Hey boss man, you know that meeting you’re sending me to? I need a laptop to get anything done there. Five hundred bucks, easy. You say you want me to have software on the laptop? Tack on a few hundred bucks—per title. Or, shop in the App Store, where 20 bucks is exorbitant. Microsoft Office: $400+ easy. Office 2 Pro: $7.99. Is every feature replicated? Of course not! But it will do what you need it to, where you need to do it. For the 99% of people who do the heavy lifting back home and take field notes in the field, the price difference between “Software” and “Apps” is a slam dunk.
“My vision is to bring more unity to the community news landscape,” said Babara Holbrook, managing editor. “And, it’s in this spirit that I’m really excited to announce the newest addition to the website. As of this month, readers can now read articles on EverythingLongBeach.com in English or Spanish.”

According U.S. Census data, one in four Long Beach residents speaks Spanish. The city has a growing Hispanic population that already accounts for more than 35 percent of all residents. So, offering an on-site translation service seemed like a natural next step in the evolution of the local news site.

Hyperlocal news, the media buzzword used to describe community-level news, continues to gain ground. In spite of the dire warnings of the news media’s imminent demise, people are still looking for neighborhood news and community coverage that connects them to their

EverythingLongBeach.com is the newest hyperlocal resource to hit the world wide web. The mission of the site is to provide an outlet for neighborhood organizations, nonprofit groups, PTAs, business owners, city government, and citizen activists to share their Long Beach news.

Simple navigation was one of our main requirements when designing the site ”EverythingLongBeach.com was created with the goal of covering our community in every wonderful local detail,” says managing editor Barbara Holbrook. “We want to be an online resource for news for Long Beach residents. Whether it’s a neighborhood’s call for volunteer tree planters, a garden party at the museum downtown, or a local yoga studio’s blood drive, EverythingLongBeach.com is here to spread the neighborhood news.”

In order to make sure that EverythingLongBeach can be a resource for everyone, the site’s owners have made “easy” a top priority. In addition to the expected categories like Entertainment or Business, visitors can browse articles by Neighborhood or Council District.

“Simple navigation was one of our main requirements when designing the site,” said Holbrook. “But, we’re also paying attention to the little details. We want to keep the site loading fast and looking good so that users can find the information they need.”

EverythingLongBeach.com has made it part of their mission statement to support local businesses. One of the ways they’re doing this is by helping Long Beach residents discover the many businesses that make this city so special. Their Spotlight on Business section features a question and answer format that makes it easy for business owners to participate while also giving residents insight into the unique “personality” of Long Beach businesses.

The site has already expanded their “Spotlight” features to include local nonprofit organizations and plans to add a Spotlight on Artist section in the near future.

Although the site has only been live for about a month, Social Media Editor Keith Lewis is already hard at work creating online connections within the community. “As a website, we have a unique opportunity to interact with our readers. People can sign up to follow us on Twitter or friend on us Facebook and we can do the same,” says Lewis. “Pretty soon, it’s becomes a conversation. EverythingLongBeach.com is a community venture and we’re excited for this chance to collaborate with neighborhood groups and local businesses.”

“We’re very happy with our first-month stats, especially the search engine results from Google,” Holbrook explained. “It’s a confirmation that Long Beach is really looking for the information we’re providing.”

Everyone is encouraged to submit articles and press releases for free publication. The only requirement is that it has a Long Beach, CA focus — it must be about a local business, a community event in a Long Beach neighborhood, or be about a Long Beach organization.
